Authorities have started the process of recruiting 3,000 constables in Bangladesh Police.
The police headquarters has said that the recruitment process for the police personnel will continue with the new policy this year by changing the long-running recruitment process.
The online application process has started from Friday and will continue till October 7. The policy also calls for various steps to be taken to curb allegations of irregularities and financial transactions in the police recruitment process.
But will the new policy be able to stop the allegations of irregularities in the recruitment of police?
What has been said in the new policy?
For so long, the recruitment process in Bangladesh Police was done in accordance with the Police Regulation 1943. But since last year, steps have been taken to modernize those rules.
There have been some amendments in the policy for recruitment of Trainee Recruit Constables, Sub-Inspectors (SIs), Sergeants and ASPs.
Inspector General of Police in the context of the new policy. Benazir Ahmed said, “There is no alternative to transparency in police recruitment. The recruitment of police in the future will be tougher and tougher than in the past. The appointments of police members will be controlled and monitored by the police headquarters.
For so long, after giving notice of appointment of constables, SIs and sergeants, on the appointed date, everyone would appear at the police line of the concerned district and give a physical examination. If they passed there, they would be called for a written test.
But according to the new policy, they must first apply online with details of height, physical description and qualifications. At that time you have to pay only 30 rupees using Teletalk. Only those who will be considered eligible for recruitment after verification and selection will be sent an SMS to the mobile number only for the physical fitness test.
An official at the police headquarters told BBC Bangla: But now that the initial verification has been done online, no one will get a chance to bring the preferred candidate there. Again, the whole process is monitored from the headquarters, so the chances of irregularities will be less.
“Especially after the selection, the team from the headquarters will check again before the training. As a result, there will be an opportunity to take action if any incompetent candidate or information of irregularities is found. This will reduce the chances of irregularities and corruption, ”he said.
The new policy places special emphasis on bringing transparency in police recruitment, officials said.
Constables or SIs / Sergeants will have to work as apprentices for two years after completing six months of training. After two years of successful service, their jobs will be permanent.

Can you stop irregularities with recruitment?
Bangladesh Police Inspector General. Benazir Ahmed said that as a result of the new rules, the appointment of sub-inspectors, sergeants and constables in the police of Bangladesh will have more qualified people with merit and physical ability.
However, allegations of large-scale financial transactions and irregularities in police recruitment are quite old.
According to multiple reports published in the media in Bangladesh, millions of rupees are transacted from constables to SIs. The members of the police later got involved in corruption to get the money.
However, at the beginning of the recruitment announcement, everyone was warned that if they are involved in any kind of financial transaction, the arrest and appointment will be canceled.
Police officials also said that they would not have to pay any more for the job except for the fee of Tk 30 at the time of application and Tk 100 for the written test.
A team from the police headquarters will work on the ground to oversee the entire recruitment process.
Former Additional Inspector General of Police Mokhlesur Rahman told BBC Bangla: However, if there is a complaint, action must be taken against it.

“Such allegations have been made before. Various steps were also taken to stop them. The problem is that action can be taken if there is a complaint in the name of a certain person, not in public. But such allegations are not found. If that place had been identified, it would have been convenient to close it. ”
He hopes that if the strict supervision mentioned in the new policy is implemented, the irregularities will be reduced to a great extent.
” Since the old system is being complained about, if the system is changed, there will definitely be an advantage. Maybe the method has been changed to get that benefit, ” he says.
